A few weeks ago, Kyle was caught off guard when asked about subject lines at eduWeb. I don’t fault him. Subject lines are tricky - you’re got a minimal amount of characters to convince someone that your email deserves their attention.

Now that my presentation is through here are some goodies for anyone that missed the presentation along with some additional data. This presentation was definitely a good learning experience for myself as it’s really the first time I’ve given a presentation in the hour long format. It’s a tough balance not getting too technical while also keeping the marketing message in mind. Next time I’ll know to slow down a little bit and more elaborate on some points. If you attended I’d love to hear any feedback positive or negative. I can’t learn from what I could do better if I don’t know. Feel free to drop a comment or contact me directly.

Over on FJ’s Higher Education Photography for Recruitment Blog he just made an excellent post about Missed Opportunity for Higher Ed. I wasn’t even half way through his short but valuable post before light bulbs started going off in my head. (Hey FJ thanks for the mention and hopefully this post will help fulfill some of this indepth SEO you claim I have) Picture to the right was take from FJ’s blog and if your college is interested in Higher Education Photography Wofford hasn’t used FJ, but I’ve heard nothing but great things from lots of credible sources.

As I introduced in my previous post this week, Information about Wofford’s Blogs and Alumni Bloggers, Wofford has a lot going on in our Network of blogs. Now that it’s the summer time and content is a little slow for most colleges there is the dilemma of what to feature on the main site homepage? Well maybe you don’t have a spotlight type feature like Wofford does on its homepage, but none the less do you data mine your blogs? Read the rest of this entry »

We have just completed the third year that Wofford has had blogs on its website. The first year was about five students from different backgrounds around campus and at different stages in their Wofford experience. Last year saw us tweak this formula to include a few faculty and concentrate on first year student blogs instead of upper class students. This year saw that formula changed a little bit more and added to as the year has gone. What Wofford currently has is a smorgasbord of blogs from all aspects of campus and beyond.

Boy did Andrew not have any idea what he was invoking the other day when he posted about the Ad Age 150. In what turned out to be an interesting Monday and I read about multiple bloggers who rejected this idea to spend two minutes to submit their blog to a Marketing Ranking service. What’s so ironic is the debate has taken exponentially longer than the amount of time it takes to submit, you have to love a good debate! If you don’t want to do it no problem that’s your decision, but something has been eating at me and as I laid down in bed last night one of those few barely twitching electrons is my head hit a spark that can only be described as a nuclear reaction. Anyone who’s considering starting a blog be warned because those nights where you used to sleep peacefully will now be consumed with an unending river of blog post ideas and occasionally the dam will burst and a tidal wave will crash down impeding sleep until you have the flick of a thought on paper. Here goes.

Have you heard about this revolutionary new car idea? BMW has a new concept car, called the Gina, with an exterior made of flexible cloth. Doors can be opened seamlessly along with the lights and it’s a car that weighs significantly less. This crazy idea isn’t even brand new as it was originally built six years ago It is finally seeing the light of day as the concept car, which actually drives, is being moved to the BMW Museum in Munich. I would guess watching the video one would come to one of two completely different mindsets; that is really weird and it can’t be safe or wow really cool. Read the rest of this entry »

So I’ve got some upcoming presentations this year about Web Analytics for Higher Education and me being the anti procrastinator that I am have started to think about exactly what could I possibly say, like I have EVER had a problem with that before. This past weekend one of those moments of enlightenment came over me and I present to you my full definition of Web Analytics 2.0. (Ok so I’ve done a little more research and Avinash Kaushik has already coined the term and has his own definition, but just like Web 2.0 there are many definitions and everyone has their own interpretation. Also Avinash if you happen to read this, I just want you to know I’m a HUGE fan! Maybe your initial WA 2.0 advice that I’m sure I’ve read before finally just sunk in, who knows?) So any of you who are regular readers know that I went to the Indy 500 last weekend and you probably also know I broke my regular tradition of attending the Coca Cola 600 to do such. Now having perspective of both events I think it might be worthwhile to take a comparative analysis of the two events and see if I can’t tie it back to Higher Education marketing. So… please bare with me here.
