Intro
In a simple explanation del.icio.us is a bookmarking service that uses tags instead of folders to organize bookmarks. Because del.icio.us is an online service it is not restricted to a physical computer. The only thing that you need is a web browser. Many sites across the Internet support multiple bookmarking options and del.icio.us is one of the most widespread. Instead of trying to explain del.icio.us any further here is a really good short intro that explains del.icio.us and even gives a pretty good educational related example. According to eBizMBA, StumbleUpon is the 5th largest social bookmarking site. It is one of the most well known and many people would say the most fun to use social bookmarking sites. What makes StumbleUpon so much fun is the StumbleUpon toolbar. What is so amazing about this toolbar is the ability to truly surf the web. Once installed you can set your preferences and interest and surf the web getting recommendations based on your interest. If your interested in “Higher Education” and “Internet Marketing” then you will be more likely to get these sorts of sites shown to you. By rating the sites that you like and don’t like using the toolbars “thumbs up” and “thumbs down” options the system learns your preferences and narrows down the sites that it sends you too.

Introduction
Writing a review of Digg pertaining to Higher Education is much more difficult than writing one for MySpace or Facebook. Digg is the first of the true Social Bookmarking sites that I’ve covered and is by far the largest, Top 30 Social Bookmarking Sites. Digg has an Alexa ranking of 150 and reaches 0.64% of internet users. According to Compete, Digg has just under 20 million monthly visitors. Just looking at the numbers Digg has absolutely incredible potential to expose any business to millions of Internet users.
