A few weeks ago I ran an extensive test of a number of free analytic tracking packages.  Hopefully nobody noticed the added load time from the extra scripts being run?  It’s taken me a few weeks to find the time to write up the results but I think they provide some very valuable insight.  I think it should be stated that coming into the test I was very commited to Google Analytics.

This week saw two big announcements.  First, as Brad reported yesterday YouTube releases Stats for Videos.  You can read more about this over at Official Google Blog.  This is great news for analytics junkies like myself.  I post some of Wofford’s more general videos to YouTube so it will be nice to get some more insight into their views.

I just wanted to write a quick post to promote Wofford’s new Sights & Sounds page.  Previously we had one page for Sights & Sounds and one for our Videos.  In an effort to consolidate and rebrand the sections we went through a redesign and yesterday the page went live!

Some interesting data came out this week about the first two weeks of Yahoo! Buzz. From initial reactions it looks like Buzz could be what takes social bookmarking fully mainstream. Today and tomorrow I’m out in Durham, NC for Google Analytics training that ROI Revolution is hosting.  ROI is a Google Analytics Authorized Consultant and AdWords Qualified Company.  ROI Revolution are also trained professionals in Google’s Seminars for Success program as this training can attest.  Through day one I am very impressed with their training program.  About a month ago they posted a One Time Offer on their blog for free Google Analytics training for non-profit organizations.  All I had to do was talk Wofford into getting me up to Durham (little over a three hour drive) and put me up in a hotel for a couple nights!  Let’s just say they couldn’t say no.  If  I wasn’t already enough of a champion for Google Analytics in the past, then this training reinforced my commitment.

On Friday I had the honor of talking to 7^th and 8^th graders at Bell Street Middle School in Clinton, SC.  Bell Street Middle is your quintessential public school in a regular town in the southern United States.  A group of hard working teachers attempting to educate young minds in a world that is changing so quickly that it is challenging to keep up.  George Goings, who is the father of my roommate in college, had me over to talk with his Career Ed students.  Career Ed is a program where kids are exposed to some important experiences about preparing to find a job.  This includes everything from deciding what you would like to be when you grow up to preparing your resume.  Part of this process involves speakers coming from various fields to talk about their work with the kids.  That is where I come in.  I found the visit extremely interesting.  If you noticed the flurry of comments on some of my resent posts, it looks like some of the students explored my blog a little.

A couple nice things happened this week.  For those that haven’t heard BlogHighEd, which this blog is a member of, was chosen to be syndicated on a new startup site Alltop.  You can read some reviews about alltop here, here, and here.  I’m pretty excited about this and hopefully this will increase exposure to this blog along with the rest of the BlogHighEd gang.

In the last few weeks a few new tools have come out to help in monitoring an online identity.  Because of this I think it’s important to take a deeper look into what to monitor.  As if you didn’t already have enough things to do in a normal day, there is a whole list of things that require regular monitoring.   Although this article is specifically geared towards monitoring a college’s identity, you could easily apply the same strategy to monitoring any company or even your own online identity.
