So .eduGuru has completed seven months of service and it’s been an incredible journey. I’ve been tossing the idea around about guest authors for a while and thinking of new was to expand the blog and today I’m excited to announce this blog is taking a new direction, afterall three heads are better than one! .eduGuru was an ambitious name for a new blog to take, but hopefully it’s lived up to the name and because there are Higher Web Gurus out there all over the place it’s time to expand our coverage to take that into account. Also I won’t lie writing and trying to create three worthy posts a week is really hard work for one person. So without wasting any more of your time by me rambling on about the obvious reasons why it makes sense to grow this blog into a multi author platform let me introduce you to the two new Gurus! Finally reaching the end of my brain dump from eduWEB 2008. I know your probably tired of hearing me talk about this conference, so this is the last one… I promise! The excitement of being back at the office is setting in and I’m attempting to follow Brad’s Now What advice, but unfortunately I already do so much of that anyway. So let’s get through these final two lasting points so you can get back to work and on with your life. Read the rest of this entry »

Finally yesterday my luggage arrived at GSP Airport four days after I last dropped it off in Philly. It was a short lived time of rejoicing. It’s been a challenging weekend as I visited my family and going through my father’s will and discussing moving issues and passing on his car; he won’t need it as he can never drive again. Just a quick update, my father has been diagnosed with brain cancer and it’s a form that is not curable. The good news is that we are looking at years of time with him instead of months. He’ll be starting radiation treatment in a few weeks and I’m sure that will be challenging for our family. As he tells me and I couldn’t agree more, “It will be alright”. Everyone, thank you for the prayers and offers of assistance. So let’s get back on reflecting on this conference and my takeaway points three, four, and five. Read the rest of this entry »

So after about thirty hours waiting on flights to leave Philadelphia International Airport, if you haven’t been following my twitter parade you’re probably better off just not knowing. I think I’m ready to finally put my reflections of the conference into writing while I continue to wait on the rest of my luggage to arrive. I’m sure I’m leaving out something important, but these seven items definitely were the largest takeaways that I had from the conference. As I’m writing this on the flight I realize that this post is going to be way too much to swallow in one sitting so I’m splitting it up into three parts. Read the rest of this entry »

Now that my presentation is through here are some goodies for anyone that missed the presentation along with some additional data. This presentation was definitely a good learning experience for myself as it’s really the first time I’ve given a presentation in the hour long format. It’s a tough balance not getting too technical while also keeping the marketing message in mind. Next time I’ll know to slow down a little bit and more elaborate on some points. If you attended I’d love to hear any feedback positive or negative. I can’t learn from what I could do better if I don’t know. Feel free to drop a comment or contact me directly.

eduWEB Conference 2008 has kicked off and it’s already a whirlwind of awesomeness! I’ll keep updating this post as they come in, but I’m trying to create a place for all the twitter names of everyone who’s at the conference. It’s already been said multiple times we all need to wear our twitter name on our shirt and I can’ t ask people to do that, but I can try to share all the usernames here. You can also follow the twitter conversation if your not here and are really interested in all that noise.

I know I missed publishing these on Friday like normal, but it’s been a very difficult last few days. Long story short my father was performing a funeral Thursday morning when he collapsed and was taken to the hospital. I just returned from the Greenwood hospital spending the morning with him. He’s in good spirits, but it’s not good. He has some swelling of the brain and a very large sized mass in his brain. He’s having a biopsy of the brain performed Monday morning when we will know more. We aren’t certain, but it’s most likely cancer and a very rapid and large case deep inside his brain. There is no need to respond, but any and all prayers would be greatly appreciated.

The following is a guest post by Craig Sudduth, Senior Student Web Content Editor and Student Writer. Summer is a time when college web professionals are able and have time to focus on projects while a good portion of campus is off on summer vacation. Despite this productive streak we still need a little entertainment from time to time to keep sane. Also a little fun fosters creativity. This is the first post in the “keeping sanity series” during the summer months.
