As you may (or may not, for you RSS readers who should take a moment to drop by) have noticed, .eduGuru has undergone something of a little facelift. is bringing about a whole lot of new stuff for us, and we look forward to sharing new articles, tools, and opportunities with all of you. To get things kicked off right, we felt it was necessary to go through and give the site some new treatment. As you can’t miss, we launched our new layout this past weekend, and we’re also modifying the information architecture to allow easier access to the best articles and information on the site. Not only that, we’ve also provided some direct access in the sidebar to Guru author Associate Director’ EDU Checkup videos, as well as improving the ability to contact and network with the .eduGuru team.
Now don’t be fooled, we aren’t done yet, not by a long shot. We have a number of changes still on our list that we plan on massaging in over the next few weeks, and some tools we’re evaluating, such as the Disqus system, to make your experience with us even more rewarding. There’s also a lot going on under the hood to allow us some options for future scaling and options that weren’t previously available to us. Some of these will just take more time than others, and we simply couldn’t wait to share everything with you. Be sure to visit often and keep your eyes peeled, since our goal is to keep adding value here that you simply can’t get anywhere else.
Preparing the new .eduGuru has taken a couple of months to get from planning to execution, as the Guru team met to discuss things like layouts, graphics, colors, and logos. The end result brought us the new theme, a lot of modifications to the underlying code, and a newer, more visual Guru Man logo. Aiding us are a couple new plugins that are quite helpful in customizing WordPress: Cimy User Extra Fields and Executable PHP Widget combined with cURL. We’re very excited about it all, and hope that you enjoy it as well.
If you’d like more information or have any questions about how we got WordPress to do some of the things we’re doing, feel free to email me at michael@doteduguru.com, or make use of the comments below. And be sure to leave us some feedback below with your thoughts, or feel free to share additional suggestions for things you might want to see in the future so that we can continue to offer enhanced tools for all of our higher ed friends!
Congratulations! Nice clean new design.
Good work on all your changes. You must have quite a team to pull it off.
I have you listed as a dofollow blog and send a few readers your way. I’ve linked to the page above.
I’m in the process of updating the rankings and providing a bit of information about each site. Updates should be up by Wednesday. Let me know if you’d like to change yours.
Warmly,
Linda P. Morton
Linda, thanks so much for your support! We’re glad you enjoy our articles and hope your readers find it useful as well.
Really cool! You mentioned cURL so how much you pulling from the Author sites? Or are you still maintaining duel content locations
We’re using cURL as a way of syndicating the newest video from Nick’s EDU Checkup, without the need to do anything on .eduGuru to keep it up to date.
I really, really like the clean new look. Great job.
One small glitch… In Safari the “Tags” button isn’t positioned properly (pic: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ssot/3230491638/).
Keep up the good work.
I like it! But half of your gurus are girls . . . maybe you should have a female guru AND a male guru logo!
I found your blog on google and read about 4 of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the Wicked work Look forward to reading more from you in the future. cheers
Your blog is very matched with disquss system but I think we can customize that commenting system according to our own blog design. I have seen many such blogs who have implemented that. Anyways it is nice blog with pretty design.
“deuGuru, because the BlogHighED feed is tot cluttered”
Open to everone,too cluttered,let everyone join,too cluttered.
You need to make up your mind.
I wonder if your idea could be implemented on my blog. I thought it gonna slow down your WordPress install in any way
